Missing character or world? Check your saves first

Check the selection tabs

In both selection menus, inspect the local and Steam Cloud tabs. Record which tab shows the expected entry and whether it is the character, the world or both that are absent. Do not overwrite one location just to make the lists match.

Understand the migration warning

The 1.0 notes describe an automatic backup and migration for saves from 0.8 or earlier. Hotfix 1.0.0.2 avoids a rare migration crash by skipping corrupted characters; its announcement says a repair was still being developed. A crash fix is not a promise that a missing character has been restored.

Preserve evidence and ask for help

Before moving files, close the game and retain an untouched copy of your saves and backups. Record your version and error, then use the official support link. This checklist does not prescribe file deletion, cloud replacement or a guaranteed recovery method.

The update improves migration for characters with invalid extra-backpack-slot entries; those characters should migrate without the items that blocked conversion. It also corrects certain off-grid Flame Altar positions, but affected base water cannot be loaded and must be added again. This is not a guarantee of recovery for every missing save.

Check the installed version before retrying. Preserve an untouched backup, compare character and world separately, and report the exact remaining problem to official support. Do not replace cloud files based on this summary.
